This is my first preview/predictions for a good 2 and a half years now. Hopefully you guys enjoy it.
New Day (Xavier Woods and Big E) vs Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura
Really not sure why this one is happening, the pairing of Rusev and Nakamura is a very odd one. New Day have to win this.
Rey Mysterio vs Andrade
I cannot believe this is being put on the kickoff show. Maybe they just want to boost views for it, but if you put this on to open the main show, that crowd will be hyped for the night ahead. They’re completely under using two of the best workers in the company in my opinion. Andrade’s probably going to win this match up, Rey Mysterio will happily put over the younger competitor.
Aleister Black and Ricochet vs The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) vs Chad Gable and Bobby Roode for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships
The booking of Ricochet and Black has been so confusing to me. Since they came up from NXT, we’ve seen them both wrestle 6 times on Raw and SmackDown combined. They just seem like a throw together tag team without much thought put into it. I’ve seen a few people say that this spot was meant for DIY, but with the injury to Ciampa, that plan has gone out the window. In my eyes you can’t just replace DIY with Ricochet and Aleister Black, it just doesn’t make sense. They should have just scrapped that idea all together.
A lot of people have been saying they think Black and Ricochet are going to win the gold (or silver) at Fastlane, but it makes little sense to me. I think Revival are going to retain tomorrow, despite taking some terrible losses the past few weeks.
Bayley and Sasha Banks vs Nia Jax and Tamina for the WWE Womens Tag Team Championships
What’s the best way to capitalise on the momentum of brand new Women’s tag titles? Put them up against Nia Jax and Tamina… For me, there’s loads of better ways to showcase these titles in a much better light. Mandy Rose has a massive opportunity against Asuka for the SmacDown Women’s title, but if she wasn’t involved in that match I would have loved to see her and Sonya Deville challenge Banks and Bayley. The IIconics would have been another great choice against the champions. I like that Bayley and Sasha Banks turned up at NXT with the titles, but they won’t step foot in a SmackDown Live arena for some bizarre reason.
The Boss’n’Hug Connection have to go get a big win here. There was talk a few weeks back that they’d face Lita and Trish at WrestleMania for the titles however that’s looking less and less likely as the weeks go by. They need to do something big at Mania for these titles otherwise the whole division will be forgotten quickly.
Asuka vs Mandy Rose for the SmackDown Women’s Championship
The booking of the SmackDown Live women’s division has been truly bizarre since Asuka won the title at the Royal Rumble. Typically, this would just be a small holdover feud before Asuka goes onto bigger things at WrestleMania, but that statement would be incorrect. Firstly, we can’t take anything away from Mandy Rose who has actually taken strides in the past few months in ring, it’s been very impressive from her. Secondly, I really think WWE have zero idea of what to do with this title at WrestleMania. It will most likely be a six pack challenge including these two competitors. Asuka will no doubt be heading into WrestleMania as champion.
The Usos (Jey and Jimmy Uso) vs Shane McMahon and The Miz for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships
The story being told between Shane McMahon and The Miz has been second to none, and this has been brewing ever since Crown Jewel. This match has real potential to steal the night. It was probably my favourite non chamber match at the last PPV. I think we’ll see The Miz turn on Shane here, with Miz’s proud dad watching on as his son puts out a challenge to Shane for a match at WrestleMania.
The Shield (Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose) vs Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin and Bobby Lashley
This match is going to be good purely just to see the return of Roman Reigns following his Leukaemia scare. But I honestly could not think of a worse way to have him return. It seems like the exact same stuff that he was doing for the majority of 2018. WWE have no idea how to book The Shield together, you can tell they didn’t plan this because it makes no sense that Dean and Seth are good friends again.
I can’t see the Shield losing here at all, especially in Reigns’ first match back. One cool theory I’ve seen being talked about is having Ambrose turn on Reigns after the win to set up a potential match at WrestleMania. It makes sense to me, and the crowd would go wild when he comes out on the Raw after Mania to attack Reigns, kicking the feud further down the road.
Charlotte vs Becky Lynch
What a wild week it has been leading up to this match up. On Raw this past Monday, Stephanie McMahon announced that if Charlotte won this match, it will keep it a singles match between her and Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania for the Raw Womens title. Alternatively, if Becky Lynch can steal a win, she will be added to the main event at the big one. Ronda’s now infamous video which is up on her website shows her sounding off about WWE officials and the WWE Universe. She claimed that she ignored some producers in what to say in her “promo”, and continued to remind fans that it’s all scripted. Yeah Ronda, we know..
I don’t think this will main event the PPV this week, they main evented both Raw and SmackDown Live, and I truly do believe they will main event WrestleMania next month. Ultimately Becky Lynch will be in the match next month, but with her injury here I find it hard to believe she will actually beat Charlotte. It will either be a flukey win or Ronda interferes to help keep it a singles match between her and Charlotte. If the later does happen, I believe Stephanie McMahon will reinstate Becky Lynch into the match.
Daniel Bryan vs Kevin Owens for the WWE Championship
Now I do think this match will main event the evening. They have dominated SmackDown Live ever since Vince announced the return of Owens to replace Kofi Kingston in this match. Seeing Owens in a face role is a little weird but also quite refreshing I think. Kofi Kingston will be facing Bryan and Mania I believe for the title, so I don’t see Owens taking this at all. Rowan will interrupt the match to help Bryan steal a victory against Owens.
Hope you guys enjoyed reading my predictions for this year’s Fastlane, and hopefully you do enjoy even more watching this Sunday.
