Venue: Pontiac Silverdome
What a massive crowd in this one! It was pretty cool to see such a massive arena filled to the brim of WWE fans. I’ve always liked outdoor arenas, and this felt like one with the glass ceiling. It was great to see the night come in as the matches were going on! But what a frustrating camera angle they had.
Roddy Piper vs Adrian Adonis
What a bizarre competitor Adonis was. He had half of his belly tucked in his trunks! This was a classic hair vs hair match, where the loser would be shaved bald. This wasn’t an amazing match, but it was sure a weird one! Brutus Beefcake came to help out Roddy Piper and help him pick up the win, and make Adonis bald.
Ricky Steamboat vs Randy Savage
This was a pretty damn good wrestling match. Steamboat was accompanied by the very hairy George Steele, and Savage and the beautiful Miss Elizabeth in his corner. There were plenty of reversals from both men, and countless near falls, but Ricky Steamboat rolled up Randy Savage after an interference by Steele when the referee was down. Ricky Steamboat says that this match defined him as a wrestler, which is pretty cool to look back on and watch!
Main Event – Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant
For the 3rd year running, Hulk Hogan main evented Wrestlemania. This was probably one of the biggest friend betrayals pro wrestling has ever seen. It is a shame that the Giant never won the WWE title, but he dominated this one early on. Most of this match though was taken up by the extra long bear hug by Andre on Hogan! The Silverdome erupted when Hogan bodyslammed the Giant, and hit the leg drop to retain his title. Looking back, it was crazy how sluggish Andre was back then!
This Wrestlemania was a mediocre one. I liked the venue, and loved the mini ring taking the competitors to the actually ring! It had one of the biggest main events in Wrestlemania history, but a pretty poor undercard apart from the Intercontinental match. What can you guys remember from Wrestlemania 3? Hope you enjoyed! and stay tuned for my Wrestlemania 4 review tomorrow!
