Wrestling as a whole in 2015 was a bit hit and miss. We started the year with an excellent Triple Threat match at the Royal Rumble, and Seth Rollins stealing the championship in the main event of WrestleMania, but since then, we’ve been ‘greeted’ with the poor booking of Rollins, and him having to forfeit the WWE World Heavyweight Championship due to injury. I hope that we see a much smoother year in wrestling, and I wanted to list a couple of things I’d love to see.
Seth Rollins to Return and to be Booked Properly
Seth Rollins was by far the best in ring talent of 2015 in the WWE. He put on five star matches against the likes of Cena, Lesnar and Ambrose. However, on the 4th of November, Rollins tore his ACL whilst attempting a sunset flip through a table to Kane. It was then announced that he’d be out for 6-9 months. 2 months later, I think most of us still miss him.
Rollins does not need to improve in the ring at all, and I believe he is more than confident on the mic. He can only be improved by the help of the booking team. He lost the majority of matches on Raw when he held the title, which just made him and the title look horrible.
I’d love to see him return as a heel still and go after Reigns for the title (yes, I think Reigns will hold it for that long). It’ll be a straight forward story line to go with, claiming that Rollins never actually lost the title, and they are able to use bits of information from their time together in The Shield. Seth Rollins should be back for SummerSlam, and I’d actually love to see the three Shield members to be in a long feud with each other, culminating in a final Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 33. That would be an amazing feud to see as long as they are all booked correctly.
WWE to bring back the Hardcore Championship
Now I know what you’re thinking! There’s no way they will bring back a Hardcore Championship in the pg era, but I think it would actually be a fantastic idea. During the attitude era, we saw guys like Raven and Al Snow constantly featured on the undercard in hardcore matches. If it wasn’t for the Hardcore matches, we wouldn’t see them on the card as much as we did.
There is a host of WWE talent that isn’t being used now, such as Adam Rose, Bo Dallas, Sandow, Axel and Zack Ryder. All could put on fun matches with the hardcore stipulation. It doesn’t need to shed blood, but just have fun short matches. Most of the talent that isn’t being used could add a different dynamic to the shows.
I think it would be funny to see Zack Ryder vs Heath Slater going through backstage, and stumbling across Mark Henry’s locker room. Henry gets pissed off, so hits the World’s Strongest Slam and wins the Hardcore Championship. The bottom line is that it would add a whole new feel to the undercard, without it having to be really hardcore.
WWE starts having 2 Women’s feuds at once
One of the biggest problems I have with the Diva’s division is that there is 10 or so good performers, but only ever 1 story line. With the influx of 3 of the best female performers onto the main roster from NXT, they have the perfect opportunity to start secondary feuds.
There was a very short period where it looked like we might see a Paige vs Natalya feud alongside the main Diva’s revolution this past year, but it lasted for only 2 weeks. The WWE have come a lot further in utilising the women, but they can always do more. Oh, and no more ‘divas’.
Potential Brand Split?
I don’t really want to go into this too much, because I could spend a whole blog post on it. A brand split will help make SmackDown relevant again, and it would mean that more wrestlers will get some air time. Their roster is stacked right now, and I don’t think they can showcase it all with just one roster.
NXT talent is used well on the main roster
While Kevin Owens is center stage most of the time on Raw, you have superstars like Neville, Bo Dallas and The Ascension either jobbing, or not be seen anywhere. All 3 looked good in NXT, but they have failed to make an impact (mainly because of booking..) on the main roster. Two of the most over Wrestlers in the world right now are Finn Balor and Bayley, so when they debut on the main roster this year, they need to be used well and come across as serious talent. Surely they can’t mess up with them two?
Lucha Underground Season 2 is just as good as Season 1
Lucha Underground was one of the best wrestling shows of last year. I loved the way it was filmed like a TV show! The second season is starting this month, and I really hope it lives up to expectations. If you haven’t seen it yet, then check the teaser for season 2 on their Twitter. It looks as though we will see PJ Black and Rey Mysterio this season! I cannot wait!
TNA to actually make an Impact – pun intended
TNA are moving to Pop TV in two days time, and the match card actually looks very strong. We will see Bobby Roode defend his King of the Mountain Championship, and they will finally crown a new TNA World Champion. Their time at Destination America wasn’t good at all in my eyes. I’m going to really try and keep with TNA this year, as I know I didn’t last year, but they do not make it easy for me!
These are just a couple of big wishes I’d love to see in 2016. I don’t expect them all to become true, but it would be nice to see a steady improvement in the world of wrestling as a whole. This is my first blog post of 2016, and I hope it is the first of many. Let me know on Twitter what you’d like to see in 2016! Thanks for reading again guys!
