We started the first Raw of June with a pretty pissed off Authority making their way to the ring. Stephanie McMahon looked back at the events that unfolded at Elimination Chamber, and bashing Dean Ambrose. She teased that the lunatic fringe could be fined of suspended. Triple H then simply asked Ambrose to return the title belt, to the actual champion, Rollins. The fans started to chant ‘Justin Bieber’ – now is it just me, or are those chants getting boring?
Just as Triple H called Ambrose out, Roman Reigns made his way to the ring. He made The Authority aware that Ambrose wanted a ladder match at Money in the Bank. Reigns was very defiant with them all, and explained that Ambrose did actually win the night before. He also completely owned him by laughing at J&J Security. Seth Rollins stormed off after stating that he doesn’t need any help at the next PPV, and that he accepts the match.
Triple H was still focused on a punishment for Reigns siding with Ambrose, so he set up the opening match, where if Reigns lost, he’d lose his spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match.
Roman Reigns vs King Barrett
It was a pleasant surprise to see King Barrett come out, and not Kane or Big Show with The Authority. It was also pretty cool to see the briefcase suspended above the ring as an added incentive for Roman Reigns. This one started off slow, with many holds between the two. The commentators then stated that if Barrett was to win, then he’d take Reigns’ place, which was not explained by Hunter. They both had some hard-hitting moves, but Reigns managed to keep his place in the Money in the Bank match with a spear.
Reigns did meet Triple H backstage, and he told him that he’d be facing Mark Henry tonight as well. On a side note – King Barrett cannot get a win these days!
Ryback vs The Miz
The new intercontinental Champion got on the mic just to thank the fans of helping him on his journey to the belt. Fans did actually like this, which I was surprised with. This was a short and snappy ‘promo’, which worked very well. Before this could even start, The Big Show hit a K.O punch on The Miz. I must say though, a feud between Ryback and The Big Show will not be pretty..
Kevin Owens and John Cena Segment
The night after he shocked us all by beating John Cena, the NXT Champion made his way to the ring. Owens explained that he spoke to his son after the match, who was very supportive and concerned for John Cena. He basically set this up to be an independent wrestler vs a WWE superstar, by saying him and Cena have been doing the same thing for 10 years now, but John Cena has been the role model, because he was the face of the WWE.
Cena hit the ring, and praised his in-ring ability, but completely bashed him as a person. He hit the same promo as he always does, but boy was this something! You could really see the passion that Cena has for all of his sayings, and he wants to impact on so many people’s lives in a positive way. The link to the young kid who was battling cancer was so touching. This review doesn’t even do it enough justice. You need to go check it out!
Kofi Kingston vs Dolph Ziggler
The New Day hit another perfectly timed promo and giving attention to Kofi Kingston’s appearance in the Money in the Bank ladder match. Ziggler made his was to the ring, with Lana in his corner. This was a very athletic match up, which was quite entertaining for Raw. Ziggler got the quick roll up to end it short though. This caused Big E and Woods to attack Ziggler, but The Prime Time Players came to help the show off.
Dolph Ziggler and The Prime Time Players vs The New Day
This match was decided during the break by somebody. The heels were in complete control of this one at the start. Darren Young was just biding his time though to get the hot tag to Titus O’Neil. The big man just tossed The New Day around the ring! They actually are making PTP look extremely strong, and talented inside of the ring which I love. Titus got the pin on Woods, in a fairly decent match. I cannot wait for The Prime Time Players and The New Day to feud though. The matches will be awesome!
Roman Reigns vs Mark Henry
Reigns made his way down to defend his spot in the Money in the Bank ladder for the second time tonight. This time against the world’s strongest man though. Reigns looked defeated straight from the off which was good to see. It puts Barrett over a little bit, despite him losing the match. Reigns hit a Samoan Drop on Henry which was pretty cool, but Reigns won by count out. The angered Mark Henry attack Reigns in the ring after the match though, so Reigns was pretty beat up.
Paige vs Nikki Bella for the WWE Divas Championship
Earlier that night, Nikki Bella had an interview with Byron Saxton, but they focus far too heavily on he long reign. This makes me think that they’ll definitely make her to record title holder, beating AJ who left in a sour way. Nikki was very strong in the ring tonight, so the WWE are really trying to push her. She has improved massively in ring, so maybe her potential record long reign won’t be too bad?
Nikki left the ring, and Brie, who was under the ring, switched places with her. She hit the quick roll up on Paige to help Nikki retain the championship. This is an okay way to end a match, but seeing as Xavier Woods did the exact same just 3 weeks before, it can get a little bit old.
Randy Orton vs Sheamus
The two, faced off on Raw to help promote the Money in the Bank ladder match which is just under 2 weeks away. And it was actually a brilliant match. They battled outside of the ring, with Orton dumping Sheamus on the announce table. This happened on SmackDown a few weeks ago, yet the match was ended because of disqualification that time, so why not now? They got back into the ring and had a very even match. Orton threw Sheamus into the time keepers area, where he picked up a steel chair to give Orton the win.
This match was really good actually. I’d like to see another little programme between these too. Sheamus did attack Orton afterwards though, and with both having no real direction right now, why not put them in a little short feud?
Bo Dallas vs Neville
Dallas claimed that before Elimination Chamber, he was trying to help Neville. Since his loss though, Bo Dallas said he wanted to just hurt Neville, which set a rematch between the two. Bo Dallas was a lot more vicious in this one, which was great to see. The feud was not a PPV standard feud, and so I’m glad they didn’t wait until Money in the Bank to set up their rematch. Neville picked up the win with the red arrow, so hopefully they’ll drop this feud, as the man who gravity forgot goes into his first MitB ladder match.
Bray Wyatt vs Roman Reigns
Reigns came down to the ring for his third and final match of the evening, once again defending his spot in the Money in the Bank match, this time, against ‘the face of fear’. Seth Rollins, J&J and Kane all looked on from the entrance ramp, to hope to see Reigns lose. This was actually a pretty cool idea to have Reigns compete in three matches in one night. It majorly puts him over.
Every time Reigns tried to get some offence on the eater of worlds, he’d just try to get his breath back, which was worked well. I was actually impressed by Wyatt’s in ring performance, but the whole weird gimmick just does not do it for me. Bray knocked Kane off the apron, allowing Reigns to go for a spear to defeat Wyatt.
The Authority who were looking on the match all circled Reigns alone in the ring, but Dean Ambrose came to the ring to help save his buddy, with the title in hand. Ambrose chucked the title to Seth Rollins, but immediately hit the dirty deeds on him to finish off the night.
Overall it was a pretty good Raw! I’m a fan of the quick PPVs, as they help keep things keep going quick. The ladder match will be so good between Rollins and Ambrose! And I’m also looking forward to the actual Money in the Bank match. It’ll be interesting to see who the other participants will be. What were your thoughts on Raw? Go tell me over at Twitter (@ImThatWWEGuy). I might try to get another blog post to you guys later this week, so let me know what you want me to write about. Thanks for reading this week again guys!
