WWE WrestleMania 31 Review

The Usos vs The New Day vs Los Matadores vs Tyson Kidd and Cesaro

We started off the pre-show with a fantastic fatal 4 way tag team match. The match was always going to go well in my eyes, as it featured 8 very strong wrestlers, but the build up was poor for this one, hence the pre-show slot. I loved how so much happened, in such a small space of time. The two tower of dooms side by side were pretty cool, and Kofi had some great high-flying moments!

Kidd and Cesaro picked up the win and retained the titles, much to my excitement. This can really help WWE revitalise the tag team division. I would like to see a massive tournament now with 16 teams going for the titles against the champions at SummerSlam. This will actually get more fans interested in tag team wrestling with more different teams, and more superstars involved in other story lines. Tell me on Twitter what teams you’d like to see! I’d like have Bo Dallas and Bray Wyatt together.

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale

This one was another pretty strong match. I found it very confusing that they big it up to make it seem like your career gets boosted, and the give the win to The Big Show, as he has nothing left to do. Thinking about it though, he’s always been seen as the biggest athlete in the world, but he never had one a battle royale, and they tried to make it seem like that was constantly on his mind through out his career. This will almost top his career off now.

I don’t see anything but him retiring soon. There is nothing left for him to do in the WWE realistically? He adds nothing to The Authority, doesn’t hold enough heat to go for a title, and has basically feuded with everyone on the roster. Damien Sandow has now fully turned on The Miz after eliminating him out of this match. I think they will go on to have a match up at Extreme Rules.

Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match

I would’ve liked to see this one a bit later on the card, but that’s not too important. The match was a little bit too short in my eyes, there were a couple of moments that got fans on their feet, but they could’ve done so much more with it. I loved the power bomb by Luke Harper on Dean Ambrose, and the massive superplex from BNB! Daniel Bryan won this match, having fought of Dolph Ziggler towards the end.

I said in my predictions that either one of these will win, I just hope they have a big rivalry in the next few months. The WWE have said that they wanted to raise the prestige of the title, and what a great chance to do it with two of the best in-ring competitors on the roster. Remember that Sheamus could return for a feud with Daniel Bryan though. The other 5 in this match seem to be a little bit stuck now. I’m not too sure where they’ll go without a title opportunity.

Seth Rollins vs Randy Orton

This one was a pretty good match up too. Randy Orton started out on top, but Seth slowly started to get back into it. J&J got hit with a double DDT to the ring floor which was pretty awesome, and both got an RKO from the viper. They played this well. J&J get involved in Seth’s matches far too much, and it was good to see them tone it down. Randy Orton got the win with a pretty awesome RKO.

I will talk more about what’s next for both of these superstars after the last match.

Triple H vs Sting

Triple H’s entrance was awful in my eyes. If he actually showed up in a full mechanical suit, then that would’ve been amazing! However, to me, it looked stupid with just his face and arms covered up. Sting dominated early on, even single handedly eliminating DX. It was freaking awesome that nWo showed up, especially with Hollywood Hulk Hogan! Shawn Michaels decided to join the fray with a sweet chin music to the WCW legend, before Triple H hit him with the sledgehammer, to end the match.

It was raging about the result last night on twitter, but having looked at it, it wasn’t too bad. I hated how Sting lost in his first, and possibly only match in the WWE, and it wasn’t even to a pedigree! However, it was amazing to see the two biggest stables of the monday night wars in the ring together at the same time afterwards. I can’t help but feel that the WWE would’ve wanted something like that to happen in the invasion story line back in 2001, but just didn’t pull it off.

What happens after WrestleMania with this one? I have no clue. Will Sting ever Wrestle again?! He seemed to be in fairly good shape, so it would surprise me if he was to pack his bags. Triple H will just go back to his Authority role, though I do think he might turn on Seth Rollins, after he won the championship.

AJ Lee and Paige vs The Bella Twins

This one was very short in my eyes. With a 4 hour time slot to fill, why do they divas only get 10 minutes?! It just makes no sense. The match was fairly decent to be fair. I loved how vicious Paige was, using the ring steps as a weapon. Her and AJ picked up the win with the Black Widow submission move.

I expect Nikki will lose the Divas Championship, to either Paige or AJ, to start a feud between the two faces for the title. Nikki has held the championship for a very long time now, I was surprised to see that it wasn’t defended at WrestleMania 31.

Rusev vs John Cena

I was not looking forward to this one at all. I just cannot stand to watch John Cena’s matches! He just has one move set which frustrates me, though he did pull of a pretty cool springboard stunner! After Rusev knocked Lana off the apron, Cena hit the AA for the win.

This was no surprise for anyone. I think that Sheamus may get involved in this title when he does finally return, but that would leave Rusev with nothing after WrestleMania. I would actually like to see a flag match at extreme rules between Cena and Rusev, but that’s already been done with Jack Swagger.

The Authority vs The Rock and Ronda Rousey Segment

With an hour and a half left, with only 2 matches to go, cue the WWE to produce one of the worst segments in WrestleMania history. It seemed that things could actually kick off between Triple H and The Rock, but it was just a few punches thrown, and nothing else. The inclusion of Ronda Rousey didn’t really add anything. I don’t understand why the WWE and UFC have started to reference each other a lot more these days. They’re 2 completely different products for me. This petered out with The Rock and Rousey standing tall in ‘their’ ring.

Bray Wyatt vs The Undertaker

It was fantastic to see The Undertaker back! His entrance was pretty cool, but it ruined it that it was still light outside. It reminded me of his american badass days, with the leather trousers and the shorter hair. He was clearly struggling out there though. I think the shaking was all just a play, but when he put Bray Wyatt in the tombstones, he was straining a lot to try to pick him up. The Undertaker got the pinfall after a tombstone to the eater of worlds.

The streak is over, so I don’t see the point in them referencing 22-1. The Undertaker will not be around for much longer, but I’m just praying that he’ll be able to face Sting at next years WrestleMania. It seems very unlikely though. Bray Wyatt seems a little stuck as well now. I’d like to see him go into the tag division for a while, as I said before, with his real life brother Bo Dallas.

Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar

This match started with a bang! Roman Reigns struck Lesnar with a punch from the off to cut him open! However, the match then dipped a little for me, when Brock completely dominated Reigns. The challenger then threw the champion into the ring post, to cause another cut to the head for Lesnar. Reigns saw his chance, and hit Lesnar with 3 superman punches, and 2 spears. The beast did come back with an F5 though, and both men were down and out in the ring.

Seth Rollins’ music hit, and he ran down to the ring to cash in his briefcase and turn it into a triple threat match. He almost lost it when Lesnar was about to hit the F5 on him, but Reigns got the spear on the champion, and then took a curb stomp form Rollins. Seth Rollins got the pinfall victory over Roman Reigns to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

The feud possibilities after this are endless. I do hope we see the title being defended every month again now, with Lesnar losing out. It seems that Lesnar will spend some time away, and come back with a potential feud against The Rock next year. Reigns, Ambrose and Rollins could go into a massive Shield feud, over the next year, to grip us all. But what will happen with Randy Orton?

Common sense says that Orton will want to win the championship back against Rollins, but the WWE seem set on pushing Roman Reigns right now. I wouldn’t mind either way, but I think a Shield triple threat could have a great story line for a WrestleMania main event.
