WWE Raw 12th January 2015 Review

John Cena Segment

I must admit, I was not a fan of the way Cena was asking the crowd certain questions, looking for a response. It gave us a pantomime feel to it which is quite tacky. The introduction of the #AuthoritySucks, was also a bad way to get the WWE Universe’s response to the authority. There is much better ways of showing your emotions, than just a hash tag on Twitter.

This segment was nothing special. It was just the general promo from John Cena before the  Royal Rumble. However, I must admit that I did like the threat from John Cena to keep the title at home. But isn’t that what Brock Lesnar is doing? I can’t help but get bored by this segment, especially when it’s based around a clearly fake firing.

John Cena vs Seth Rollins – Lumberjack Match

I have a strong dislike for lumberjack matches. And I absolutely hate the way the authority books matches strongly in their favour. It’s happened for almost a year now, and I am so bored of it. I think they did come back way too quick, but hopefully by Wrestlemania they are gone!

The constant near falls made the match a little bit more interesting, but Seth Rollins was always going to win. Especially when you have J & J, Kane and Big Show with Rollins. It was cool to see Cesaro swing Cena into the security wall. But I must admit, it was a stupid match up, and one that I would like to forget about.

The New Day vs Cesaro and Tyson Kidd

I would love to see Cesaro and Kidd get a push in the tag team division, as it is really lacking. But I must say I’m not a fan of the appearance by Adam Rose in this match. I think he’s a poor wrestler and in my mind, it degrades Cesaro and Tyson Kidd. The New Day are a stable that had a lot of hype to them, but did not really deliver.

I was a fan of the good tag team moves from both teams, but I found it very confusing that The New Day won. Kidd and Cesaro have bags more potential than The New Day. Regardless of that, neither team were given enough time to showcase what they could do in this match.

Big Show and Roman Reigns Segment

To be honest, this was quite boring. It got no fan reaction, and it did not excite me one bit for their showdown. Not much more else to say on this.

Roman Reigns vs Luke Harper

I hate the way Luke Harper looks. It must be the massive sweat stain on the vest, it’s vile! Speaking of attire, Reigns needs to drop the police look. A good wrestling match up with both superstars showing their skills. It had a great finish to it, with one of my favourite finishers, the spear.

Again though, I dislike how things are one sided in the advantage of the authority. As soon as Reigns wins, Big Show is straight in the ring, which takes away a decent wrestling match between the two. Although with the win to Reigns, it seems that the WWE are building him up for the Royal Rumble match.

Divas match up

I don’t like the divas wrestling. With poor story lines a quick match ups, I don’t see the point in them.

Brock Lesnar Segment

Again found this very boring. It is just a filler for the show. Raw hasn’t got enough content to fill 3 hours, so they roll out pointless segments like this. If it wasn’t for Paul Heyman’s decent mic skills, this would’ve been appalling. But this was another pointless segment on Raw.

Jey Uso vs The Miz

This feud seems all but up now. There was absolutely no reaction from the crowd, this was not helped as the match was far too short. I was a great fan of Mizdow, but now it’s warn off. I did like the performance at Hell in a Cell I think it was, where they did the YMCA, but after that, it has gone down hill now. WWE played too much on it, and now Damien Sandow just looks stupid.

Daniel Bryan Segment

The Ascension vs Local Competitors

I’m extremely tired of these matches! Three in a row? Seriously WWE? These matches do nothing. They don’t big up The Ascension, it doesn’t introduce new superstars, it barely fills up any time on the show, just another dead match. And please, drop the Road Warriors look!

Rusev vs Dean Ambrose

I liked how they worked with the injured knee on Dean Ambrose. But could it be incorporated into a story line to maybe miss Fast Lane before Wrestlemania? Rusev was always going to win, but a twist with the way the match ended. This match has helped Rusev keep his unbeaten streak (which was always going to happen), and it could also help Dean Ambrose’s momentum as he didn’t get pinned.

Royal Rumble triple threat contract signing

I loved the tension that Paul Heyman and Seth Rollins brought the this contract signing. John Cena looked a bit out of place here as most of the talk was between Rollins and Heyman. The AA through the table made Cena look strong, but ultimately, it was Seth Rollins who finished on top. A great contract signing, which did actually get me excited for their match up at the Royal Rumble.

Overall, it was a very weak Raw. I was not impressed by the amount of promos that went on, and the lack of decent wrestling match ups. It did end on a high with the contract signing though.

I will be uploading my top 10 hated wrestlers in a few days time, and will then review Raw next week too. Comment below what lists you would like to see me do, and whether you want me to do reviews on NXT or Smackdown. Thanks for reading guys!
